Half Full or Half Empty?Gas holders are an integral building block in the European gas supply. At least 20% of the German demand for gas can be provided from gas holders. Numerous projects are in the planning stages, but do they really pay off? In recent years the storage market in Germany and Western Europe has increasingly opened up to new market players. Against the backdrop of the continuous opening up of the European gas markets, the possible uses of holders are changing constantly. Whereas traditionally, storage facilities were used to optimise supply contracts, in the future the gas trading market will bear the most weight in determining their use. Summer and winter spreads will become decisive revenue indicators for holders, however this alone is not sufficient for an initial assessment. enervis has developed its own model for mapping forward prices and spot market prices for gas. A usage optimisation model, which can be calibrated to each specific storage facilty, is connected downstream of this model. With this, we can establish economic variability forecasts and can validate decisions concerning investments and uses. |
