MARKET INFORMATION
The Potential of Market-Oriented power generation from biogas in the German Renewable Energy Act of 2012
From 01.01.2012, the German Renewable Energy Act (EEG) of 2012 will implicate far-reaching changes in the remuneration structure of the EEG. The introduction of a so-called market premium as an optional marketing alternative to the fixed EEG feed-in tariff aims at improving the market integration of EEG-plants. Furthermore, power plants operating on the basis of biogas (biogas plants in the following) will be compensated with a “flexibility premium” for providing additional capacity for market oriented power generation. Opting for operation with a market premium and consequently using the flexibility premium is possible for both existing plants and new plants. In the following, the mechanisms of the market premium model and the flexibility premium will be exemplified and their economical potential for biogas plants will be outlined. pdf-download »
