Transformation of Power Generation System: Is the Transmission Network the Bottleneck?

In order to achieve the energy policy objectives concerning the extension of renewable energy capacity, a massive extension of the transmission network is going to be necessary. The question, however, is whether the aspired extension targets of the network are feasible. If these targets are not met, the extension plans for renewable energy sources are at stake. However, deviations from the extension plans would have far-reaching consequences for the strategic orientation of the energy business, particularly in the generation sector. This enerviews issue analyses the need for extension of the transmission network, compares it to concluded network extensions and takes a look at the possible repercussions of an insufficient network extension.
