Heavy Fuel Oil Takes Off

Gas prices in Germany are to a large degree linked to the prices for heating oil and heavy fuel oil. At the same time, production and demand of heavy fuel oil in Germany and on the global market have been declining for years. The low liquidity has led to very volatile prices for heavy fuel oil and a steep price increase relative to heating oil since 2008. Against this backdrop, the prices defined in gas supply contracts linked to heavy fuel oil have become unexpectedly expensive and difficult to forecast. pdf-download »
